China's Geely, Owner of Volvo, Denies Interest in Buying Saab

Saab is in a crisis indeed. One day it is rescued, and the next it is on the brink of destruction. And this has been happening over and over again, like an automotive version of The Groundhog Day.

Yesterday we reported that Saab has not yet received the funds promised by Pang Da and Youngman as a bridge loan to keep the Swedish carmaker in business until the deal is approved by Chinese authorities.

Today, Swedish newspaper Dagens Nyheter published an article claiming that another Chinese automaker, Geely Automobile, which bought Volvo from Ford in 2010, is interested in acquiring Saab as well.

Volvo to Shut Down Plant that Builds C70 Convertible in 2013

Volvo's automotive division has announced that it will close its Uddevalla plant in Sweden in 2013 once it takes sole ownership of the factory. “The low volumes in the Uddevalla plant do not justify continued production”, said Volvo CEO, Stefan Jacoby.

The Uddevalla factory is currently run by Volvo and Pininfarina under a joint-venture agreement that was established in 2005 for the production of the C70 hardtop-convertible. The plant employs 600 workers and in 2010, production reached 10,000 units, which represents only 65% of its full capacity.

Volvo Says Dankeschön to Germans for Ranking the Brand First in Customer Satisfaction

We'll have to wait and see if and when an American carmaker will provide an appropriate answer to Audi's new A6 commercial, but meanwhile here's a fresh and rather witty TV spot from Volvo that thanks German drivers for making the Swedish company the number 1 brand for customer satisfaction in Germany.

Cleverly, the Swedes also say Dankeschön (thank you in German) to the country's car manufacturers such as Audi, BMW, Opel, Mercedes, Volkswagen and Porsche for their...participation, and all this under the beautiful sounds of Bert Kaempfert's famous tune, "Danke Schoen".

Volvo C30 - Heico Sportiv HS3 D5 to debut at Essen Show

A few weeks after presenting a trio of C30 based concepts at the SEMA show, Volvo specialist Heico Sportiv is crossing the pond as its preparing to premiere yet another C30 based model in the Essen Motor Show in Germany. But this time Heicos souped-up C30 is the real deal.

More specifically, the Heico HS3 D5 features a full body kit with front and rear bumper spoilers, side skirts, and fender flares. In the interior Heicos C30 benefits from two-tone seat and door panels and a series of interior accessories, including a pedal set, foot rest, hand-brake lever, and door pins, all in aluminium.

In terms of mechanics, Heicos program for the C30 includes a height-adjustable suspension kit, 4-tip stainless steel exhaust, 4-piston sports brake kit and most importantly, an engine kit that raises the 5cylinder diesels power from 180 to 205 Hp and torque from 350Nm to 400NM.

According to Heico, that's good enough for a 0-100 km/h time in 7,9 sec and a max speed close to 230 km/h. All Heico Sportiv products for the C30 will be commercially available in 2007

2006 SEMA SHOW: Caresto Speedster, Swedish hotrod powered by a 315Hp Volvo V8

Making its world premiere at the 2006 SEMA Show, the Caresto Speedster is the work of Swedish car specialist
Leif Tufvesson. Leif previously worked for the Volvo Concept Center, and for 6 years was responsible for the development department of the Swedish sports car manufacturer, Koenig. He has now started to construct and manufacture his own cars.

The Speedster is a mid-engined retro styled hotrod with a Volvo V8 unit which has an output of 340Hp when fueled with ethanol and 315Hp when using petrol. The car is completely constructed in aluminum and carbon fiber with an advanced sports car chassis fitted with Ohlin shock absorbers. According to Leif, the car tips of the scale at exactly 1.200 Kg.

The leather interior is also crafted with a nostalgic retrospective feel. The steering wheel, instruments and gear selector come from Volvo, as does the 6speed automatic transmission and the car's electrical system.

Interesting enough, Leif has plans to build at least 6 examples of this particular model, although there's no specific date on the table yet. But if you've got spare money laying in your bank account, Leif may be tempted to sell you this unique hotrod. Here's what he said: "An interested buyer would have to be prepared to pay around 2.5 million Swedish kronor (approximately $338,000)"

Sounds a lot, but on the other hand, you get the chance to buy a unique vehicle, at least till Leif decides to build the other 6 he was talking about.

2006 SEMA Show: 600Hp 1967 Volvo Amazon Hotrod!

After the Buick 1964 Buick Electra 225 Convertible, here's another classic that will surely stir up some attention at the 2006 SEMA Show: a lusty, custom built 1967 Amazon Hotrod. Although the Swedes haven't released any info yet -apart from the fact that it was chosen from 600 or so customized Volvos on display at the Vallakra Meet, in "Sweden"s Hottest Volvo" contest last summer, we know that this custom built Amazon wears a 6cylinder engine producing 600Hp.

2006 SEMA Show: Volvo C30 by Heico, Evolve & IPD

Volvo just unleashed its trio of spiffed up C30's for the 2006 SEMA Show. I know you all dig the camouflage paint job of the Heico Sportiv and the gull wing doors of the IPD, but I think you'll agree with me that the show star here is the yellow crazy 507Hp Evolve C30 that looks like it jumped straight out of a Group-B Rally of the 80's! (Click on the pics to enlarge)

Evolve C30: Horsepower is the name of the game here, with 507 stampeding ponies thundering through all four wheels. Race-inspired suspension, gigantic brakes and a screaming yellow high gloss paint scheme over wild body lines highlight the Evolve C30. Sequential twin turbos, exotic exhaust plumbing and an advanced heat exchanger promise eye-popping performance from this C30. Inside are highly bolstered seats, a safety structure and custom leather touches

Heico Sportiv/Burton Snowboard C30: A joint collaboration between German tuner Heico Sportiv and Burton Snowboard. Fully drivable with 300Hp and factory electronically controlled 4wheel drive, it features a height adjustable suspension, custom cut Toyo tires and an complex six layer camouflage paint job. Inside, there's a portable GPS system and gleaming 2008 Burton snowboards and boots.

IPD C30: Draped in the colours of the Swedish flag, the IPD pumps out 384Hp retaining its factory front-drive layout and puts its best foot forward by offering up plenty of electronic fun and a thoroughly custom fabricated interior, highlighted by a touch screen in the floating center stack and a heads-up instrument display. But the icing on the cake is the fully functioning gull-wing style doors.

Scoop: 2008 Volvo XC50

Italian site Infomotori has got a bunch of photoshops featuring Volvo's upcoming XC50 SUV which will take on the likes of the BMW X3 and the future Mercedes MLK & Audi Q5 SUVs. As the bigger XC70 is based on the V70 (click here to see pics: 2007 Volvo XC70), likewise the XC50 will be based on the V50 using the same AWD system.

According to Informotori, when the XC50 goes into production (first months of 2008), its line-up will be similar to the V50 and it will include the 220 Hp 2.5T petrol and 180 Hp D5 diesel engines. Via: Infomotori

Scooped - 2007 Volvo XC70 !

Swedish car magazine Teknikens Varld -English translation : World of Technology, has got "THE" scoop on Volvo's upcoming mid-size crossover, the XC70. Based on the also new V70 -check it out here: Volvo V70 caught out in the open, the AWD XC70 gets the usual crossover treatment with an off-road bodykit that includes new front & rear bumpers, new alloys and of course raised body height so it can cope with city... curbstones.

Since the car we see in the pics is practically production ready, I don't see the reason why we won't see the XC70 going for sale sometime next year.
