Japanese Carmakers' Production Back on Track, But it May not be Enough

For the first time after the March 11 earthquake and Tsunami, Japanese automakers have returned to their normal production levels. In fact, they are superseding last year’s numbers in an effort to make up for the lost time.

Toyota and Nissan, Japan’s two biggest car manufacturers are leading the pack, reporting increased production for the first time since March, with Mazda, Suzuki, Honda, Subaru and Mitsubishi following their lead.

Mazda PR Tweets that the Company is Working on New Rotary Engine-Powered Model(s)

Even though Mazda President and CEO, Takashi Tamanouchi, has repeatedly stated that the company will continue to develop the firm's rotary engine after the demise of the RX-8 sports car in June of 2012, many have questioned the company's commitment to the Wankel concept.

To calm the Japanese brand's fans, Mazda posted a tweet on its Japanese account that said it is "zealously" planning the development of "new models", which will be equipped with a rotary engine.

Mazda Bids Farewell to RX-8 with Japan-Only Spirit R Special Edition

We already knew that Mazda has decided to kill-off the RX-8 four-door coupe sooner rather than later. More strict fuel economy and CO2 emission regulations saw to that, forcing the Hiroshima-based carmaker to pull it from overseas markets and keep it alive in Japan only.

Today, Mazda announced that it is launching a final special edition of its rotary-engined sports car, which will only be available in the domestic market with sales set to start on November 24. Production will be limited to 1,000 units.

LA Show: Mazda Nagare Concept Video & Pics

Now this is a new one! Mazda describes the Nagare -pronounced na-ga-reh which is Japanese for flow and the embodiment of motion, as a concept of a concept. In other words, its proportions and surface language will evolve in subsequent designs planned for presentation at future autoshows this season. So how long till well see a concept version of the Nagare concept? Well, sooner than you think, as Mazdas new global design director, Laurens van den Acker stated that the Japanese company would debut two concepts, one in January at the Detroit Show and one in the Geneva Show in March.

Mazda Nagare Concept - 2006 Los Angeles Auto Show

The key word here is Flow which is how Mazda describes its new design language. According to Mazdas Design Division, Nagare concept reveals the global design cues for the next generation of Mazda vehicles.

The Mazda Nagare will make its debut at the Los Angeles International Auto Show on the 29th of November. I guess well have a better look at it in L.A. because this design pic looks like a damn Monet painting. Why all the unnecessary suspense?

SEMA Show: Mazda CX-7 Adrenaline 300Hp

Mazda's 2007 CX-7 received the "Sin City" treatment at this years SEMA show. Staring of with the engine, Mazda re-tuned the CX-7's 2.3 turbo motor (modified intake system, header with a free-flow exhaust and more boost from the re-plumped turbo) thus, increasing output to 300Hp (stock, 244Hp).

The "yellow-mellow" Adrenaline's exterior attributes include new styling front and rear, a clam shell front clip, wrap around rear spoiler and an innovative rear glass design. New fenders and doors give Adrenaline a three-inch wider overall stance. Wheel wells are filled out through the fitment of wheels with a larger-than-stock offset (22" alloys and 285/35-R22 Yokohama tires). Inside, Adrenaline boasts fresh new colors and materials, including all-new audio and interior functions

Colours apart, this souped up CX-7 actually looks quite good and in my opinion, Mazda should consider carrying on some styling elements (ex. the front fascia) to the stock version latter on.

2007 Mazda CX-7 - European Version to Premiere at Paris International Motor Show

Mazda announced that it'll showcase the European version of it's mid-sized SUV CX-7, at the Paris International Motor Show (to be held from Thursday, 28 September through Sunday, 15 October 2006).

As commonly seen in pre-motorshow press releases, Mazda was quite spartan disclosing any information till the opening of the show. Just for a tease though, they released a 3/4 front view picture which reveals a few, insignificant design elements that are specific to the European model. They include mirror mounted signal lights and chromed wrapped fog lights with additional daylights. (US version on the left hand side)
